Rose and Serenity, your two new "friends" of the year. Last December, Pantone created quite the stir when the Color Institute selected two very romantic colors, Rose Quartz and Serenity, as the 2016 Pantone Color of the Year. It was the first time the institute selected two hues, and what hues they are. The soft colors create a very gauzy effect that effortlessly blends together. According to the folks at Pantone, Rose Quartz and Serenity "demonstrate an inherent balance between warmer embracing rose tone and the color tranquil blue." We couldn’t agree more.

No stranger in striking a sartorial balance, Tadashi injects his own take on the Color of the Year in his Spring 2016 collection, revealed in his interview with Pantone :

PROMINENT COLORS

Building off of my Resort 2016 collection, PANTONE 14-0957 Spectra Yellow will be harmonized with shades of PANTONE 16-3931 Sweet Lavender, PANTONE 16-6030 Katydid, PANTONE 19-4039 Delft and PANTONE 13-2004 Potpourri.

INSPIRATION

This season, I will be delving deeper into my heritage and memories of Japan. I was drawn to the vibrancy of a blossoming Japanese garden which helped to inspire the color palette for spring.

SIGNATURE COLORS

Violet plays a key role this season which is shown in different hues of PANTONE 16-3931 Sweet Lavender and PANTONE 19-3951 Clematis Blue. It works as a statement color but also a complement to the other tones in the collection reminiscent of Japan.

MUST-HAVE ITEM FOR SPRING 2016

Spring will introduce many sporty separates that can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. One of my favorites is an oversized PANTONE 16-3617 Sheer Lilac windowpane sweatshirt with PANTONE 14-0957 Spectra Yellow iris-motif embroidery over a tea-length PANTONE 16-3931 Sweet Lavender and PANTONE 16-3617 Sheer Lilac tulle skirt.

HOW DO YOU USE COLOR TO IMPART A MOOD OR EMOTION?

I use color to bring my inspiration to life and convey the nostalgic feelings of distant memories. The color palette is a window to the past.

Pantone didn’t just select Rose Quartz and Serenity but they highlighted an exciting array of colors in their report that are completely unisex. You’ll find the energetic Snorkel Blue, a strong brother to Serenity, as well as the vibrant Green Flash. Peach Echo blends nicely against the Rose Quartz and for the more daring, there is the fiery Fiesta red. Incorporating these spring colors in your wardrobe is a great way to jazz up the season.
